"Sky Break", Oil on Canvas, 28.25" x 36", 1998

"I want to freeze moments of the beauty of life into one moment…I want to paint every beauty through my eyes. In my life, I have seen much sadness and sorrow, so I want my painting to be full of happiness."

Bui Suoi Hoa graduated from Hanoi Fine Arts College in 1987. At present she lives in Ho Chi Minh City. She was one of 15 artists that were honored by being selected by Plum Blossom Gallery in Singapore, Hong Kong and America to have their work published in the book "Uncovered Soul."

The Vietnam Association of Plastic Arts Workers of the Vietnam Government published her work in the book "Vietnam Art" with a group of young artists. Oil is her favorite media. Her paintings were exhibited at the Vietnam-French Cultural Center in Paris; the Allience Francaise in New York; in Hong Kong, Singapore, Miami, Houston, Palm Springs, and Boston in the USA. Her work is currently represented at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Singapore, and at The Meridian International Center in Washington D.C. Her works have also been published in several magazines including Asian Art Pacific Magazine, Vietnam Review, Vietnam Pictorial, and Asian Art Magazine. She has also many paintings in private collections in Vietnam and worldwide.

Two years ago, she began to study theater; she now selects many subjects for her paintings from traditional Vietnamese theater. She also is concerned with social problems and recently she has been painting the homeless children of Vietnam. There are many women artists in Vietnam, however, most of them stay unrecognized. Life is difficult and they are burdened with all the responsibilities of the house, in addition to their art. She feels that she has surmounted this dilemma. She is sad when she does not paint.

Sometimes she paints sudden and spontaneous ideas. She paints everyday. Art is a way to describe the emotions of life: sadness happiness, joy and life. In the past, Vietnamese artists could not paint freely, could not paint what they felt. Now they are free to paint what they love. Now there are many opportunities for artists to organize exhibitions, even internationally.
